A visiting student recently walked into Central Westside and made the comment "This feels like a big house with a church in it" they felt so at home!

Central Westside United Church is one of 23 buildings of "significant architectural interest" listed in the Owen Sound Heritage Designation Register.

It was built on the corner of Frost Street (now 10th Street West) and Mulholland Street (now 3rd Avenue West) at a cost of $24,747. The cornerstone of Westside Methodist Church, as it was known then, was laid May 10, 1910.

Two wooden cupolas top the brick and stone building with mullioned stained-glass windows. The cupolas are a reference to Owen Sound's maritime heritage, acting as a beacon of hope and safe harbour.

The sanctuary is based on the Akron plan design; octagonal and vaulted, with the focus on the preacher. A stained glass window, removed from Central United Church before it was demolished, is mounted on one wall.
